Measurements
How to Measure for Your Gown
-
Bust:
-
Measure around the fullest part of your bust. Use a soft measuring tape and ensure it is horizontal around the back and across the nipples. Do not pull the tape too tight.
-
-
Waist:
-
Identify the narrowest part of your waist, typically above your belly button and below the rib cage. Wrap the tape around this area, keeping it parallel to the floor.
-
-
Hips:
-
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and rear. This is usually around 7 to 9 inches below your waist.
-
-
Length:
-
For full-length gowns, measure from the top of your shoulder, over the bust, to the floor. Wear the shoes you intend to use on your wedding day for an accurate measurement.
-
-
Shoulder Width:
-
Measure from the edge of one shoulder to the other, across the back.
-
-
Sleeve Length:
-
Measure from your shoulder to just past the wrist bone to where you would like your sleeve to end.
-
-
Upper Arm Circumference:
-
Measure around the widest part of your upper arm.
-
-
Waist to Hem:
-
Measure from your waist down to where the hem of the skirt should fall, considering the height of your wedding shoes.
-
-
General Tips:
-
Always measure over your undergarments, not over your regular clothes.
-
Keep the measuring tape comfortably snug, but not tight.
-
When in doubt, round up to the nearest measurement to allow for alterations.
-
Ask someone to help you with the measurements to ensure they are accurate.
-
Double-check each measurement after recording to avoid any mistakes.
